Awash National Park

Awash National Park, the more renowned of the two, bears the scars of overgrazing and the encroachment of agro-industrial growth. Yet, despite the intrusions, its soul remains undisturbed. Explore its sprawling 756 square kilometers, where the Awash River carves through, cascading into a breathtaking waterfall - the park's signature spectacle. Venture further to uncover acacia-fringed grasslands, hot springs of Filwoha, and the Kudu Valley.

Journey south to Ilala Sala Plain for a rendezvous with wildlife - Beisa Oryx, Soemmerring's Gazelle, and even the elusive Lion among others. However, it's the skies that steal the show here with over 350 bird species, making it a birder's paradise.

Alledeghi Plains

Venture further into the untamed Alledeghi Plains, a vast sanctuary sprawling across 1,800 square kilometers. Here, encounter seven lion prides, elusive cheetahs, Northern gerenuk, and Grevy's zebra among others. Marvel at the spectacular avian life, from the Somali ostrich to the Scissor-tailed kite.

The area also offers a cultural tapestry of pastoral tribes - the agriculturalist Kereyu, Somali Issa, and the warrior-like Afar. Despite their historical conflicts, these tribes now enjoy a hard-earned peace and continue their unique traditions - a fascinating sight for the culturally curious.
