Day by day Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ADDIS ABABA & CITY TOUR
- Fly to Addis Ababa; upon arrival at Bole international airport, your hospitality begins. We provide you with a meet-and-greet service at the airport and then transfer you to your hotel. This afternoon, enjoy a tour of Addis Ababa, a pleasant capital city with wide jacaranda-edged avenues, interesting museums, and lively markets. Start our visit with the Ethnological Museum for an overview of Ethiopia's history, culture, and traditions, and its collections from thousand-year-old nomadic tribes. Next, see the beautiful baroque-styled Holy Trinity Cathedral which contains the thrones and the tomb of Emperor Haile Selassie (the last king of Ethiopia) and some other members of the royal family. We end up the city tour by inviting you to the oldest and best coffee roaster and coffee shop-Tomoca. Not only do they serve fantastic Ethiopian coffee, they also offer other fine coffees. DAY 2: DRIVE TO JIMMA VIA WOLISO FROM ADDIS ABABA
- Early we depart from Addis Ababa to Jimma. En route, you will be visiting beautiful villages of the Gurage and Oromo people as well as crossing the magnificent and picturesque Gibe Gorge. Gibe River is a major tributary river of the Omo. This drive will take you through beautiful landscapes dominated by coffee plantations. Explore small-scale coffee plantations and coffee unions around Jimma after checking in and having a short time for lunch in Jimma. Overnight in Jimma.
DAY 3: DRIVE TO MIZAN TEFERI
- Today, you will be continuing your southwest routing as we make our way to Mizan Teferi. The 240km drive is made up of a mosaic of forest and cultivated land dominated by coffee, tea, and various spices, and we will have ample opportunity to stop and take advantage of any photographic opportunities we may encounter. Overnight in Mizan.
DAY 4: EXCURSION TO BEBEKA
- This morning is devoted to the exploration of Bebeka Coffee Eastae. It is the biggest coffee farm sprawl across 6500ha of lushly forested hillside south of Mizan Teferi. Situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters provides an ideal climate and enables the best-growing conditions for the plants that are well protected by the larger forest trees which provide shade from the midday sun and preserve the moisture in the soil. You will have enough time to explore selected coffee farms. In the afternoon drive to Bonga. Overnight in Bonga.
DAY 5: EXPLORE KAFFA AND SURROUNDING AREAS
- An activity-filled day in exploring Kaffa Bio Spere and surrounding local villages. A short hike takes you through the wild and lush coffee forest of Mankira which consider the origin of Coffee Arabica. Meet the local farmers and visit their villages and learn about them. In the afternoon drive to Jimma. Overnight in Jimma.
DAY 6: DRIVE TO AWASSA VIA SODO
- Today's a full-day long but scenic journey as you drive to Awassa. The views in this remote part of Ethiopia are simply spectacular. The drive affords some excellent photo opportunities of the jagged mountains and the Gibe Valley. The route is dotted with intermittent mountain hamlets that add to the splendor of the scenery. Lunch break at Sodo and continued driving to Awassa. Overnight in Awassa.
DAY 7: DRIVE TO YIRGA CHEFFE
- Today you enjoy a scenic drive to the lush tropical vegetation of Yirga Cheffe. This is one of the most popular sources of Ethiopian premium coffee. At Yirga Cheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, enjoy a guided walking tour through the coffee farms. Meet farmers to learn and participate in their daily duties. Then drive back to Yirga Alem. Check into your lodge, nestled between coffee fields and lush vegetation in Yirgalem town. The Aregash Lodge is a natural retreat of astounding beauty and tranquility. Overnight in Aregash Lodge.
DAY 8: EXCURSION TO ALETA WONDO & EXPLORE THE SIDAMA VILLAGE
- This morning excursion takes you to Aleta Wondo, another important coffee-growing locality. Spend this morning exploring the coffee farms and learning more about the coffee and the local people. In the afternoon, explore the Sidama Village at Yirgalem. The nation of people called the Sidama are avid coffee drinkers and enset eaters, crops which they cultivate using some of the world’s oldest farming techniques, which honor not only the earth but also themselves. Visit area coffee farms and coffee unions then taste the best coffee, and drive back to Yirgalem. Overnight in Aregash Lodge.
DAY 9: DRIVE TO ADDIS ABABA
- Drive back to Addis Ababa. We make a stop at Ziway for lunch then proceed driving. If you arrive earlier than expected, you will have the chance to visit the Ethiopian commodity exchange (ECX) then you will attend our farewell party at a cultural restaurant with the traditional dance.
DAY 10: DEPARTURE
